Yesterday I’ve read the shocking awful news that my wonderful friend Zeke passed away suddenly and completely unexpected – I’m devastated about this. Meeting him for the first time at Dartmouth in fall of 2004, he was a great companion and help during my New England year. Making and enjoying music with him (opera and Asian restaurant visits in Boston, the concerts of his senior year project, common German language teaching for the Handel Society’s performance of Haydn’s “The Creation”) was a major and unforgettable part of this time. Further on when back in Germany, meeting him either in Weimar, Munich, Aachen, Berlin, Rheinsberg or wherever was always a great pleasure since Zeke was able to make nearly everyone feel comfortable and familiar: he was positive about everything and everyone; he was inspiring, bubbly and enthusiastic about all that he’s been doing. Besides that, he was also very warm-hearted, empathic to friends and hospitable beyond all limits, so visiting him felt always like coming home and being part of the big “Zeke family”. All time spent with him was felt doubled since there was such an intense exchange of thoughts, a vast number of undertakings and an unmeasurable amount of pleasure and positivity. All of this has come to an end way too early!
We have lost a very luminous and shining person, a great musician and a wonderful friend who definitely made earth a nicer place to be for many. This cannot be replaced but I hope that the countless memories a great moments with him will shine on. My thoughts are with his family Sindre Øgaard, Quentin McMullen, Molly McMullen-Laird, Purple Wilson, Samuel McMullen and Lydia Marie and with all his friends who mourn him.
May you rest in peace and bring some good cheer up to Heaven as you have given to us here on Earth!
